National Journal: Burgess an "Up-and-Comer"

March 20th

National Journal magazine took a look at the possibility of a Republican takeover in the House and identified key leaders to watch.  In a section of "Up-and-Comers" they wrote of Dr. Burgess,

"At least 10 physicians in the House GOP can counter the administration's health care efforts with their own expertise, including Michael Burgess of Texas, who set up a health care caucus to explore policy alternatives."

The magazine goes into further depth:

"Rep. Michael Burgess of Texas is a physician who heads a House GOP group exploring specific proposals, such as how to control the cost of health insurance while preventing insurers from denying coverage based on pre-existing medical conditions.  Burgess points out the obvious reality that Obama is not going to sign any Republican-backed repeal of his own health care plan. "The sound bite for the election would be 'Repeal, or else,' but we would still face the 60-vote requirement in the Senate and a presidential veto that would require a two-thirds vote in both chambers to over-ride," he noted.
