Congressman Michael Burgess Files for Re-Election
Local doctor seeks to regain seat in the United States House of Representatives
Lewisville – Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D., filed his official re-election papers on December 3, 2007. He has represented the 26th Congressional district which includes Denton, Tarrant, Cooke, and Dallas counties since 2003.
“We’ve made our economy stronger and our Nation safer. Now we need to build on this progress and achieve real reform in the areas of immigration and health care,” commented the third-term Congressman.
Burgess is a respected, local physician who practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for nearly three decades. In Congress, he has worked to improve transportation, encourage economic development, and make health care more affordable. Fellow Republicans elected him to a leadership position in 2006 as Vice Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee which designs and develops legislative proposals for consideration by the entire Congress.
Re-elected in 2004 and in 2006, Congressman Burgess now represents District 26 on the high-profile House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is responsible for health care, the safety of food and drugs, energy and power.
“I took an oath of office when I became a doctor and when I became a Congressman to serve to the best of my abilities. I hope the people of the 26th district will vote to allow me to continue doing just that,” said Rep. Burgess.
