The American Red Cross is grateful to U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess for introducing House Resolution 937 honoring our Service to the Armed Forces program.
The Red Cross is a vital communication link between the men and women of the U.S. armed forces and their families. As a physician, Dr. Burgess assisted in confirming events for Red Cross emergency communications such as the death of a family member, the birth of a new child or the serious illness of a loved one.
These confirmations help the military grant leave to send service members back home. He also encountered the Service to Armed Forces program while his son was in the Air Force and the congressman's father-in-law passed away.
Through his service as a physician and now as the representative of the District 26 of Texas, Mr. Burgess is a true Red Crosser.
This resolution has brought a smile to the faces of all Red Crossers. Their work is selfless and difficult, but acknowledgement of their service is truly welcome.
